Dr. Yi-Chen (Jo) Chiang
Dr. Yi-Chen (Jo) Chiang, originally from Taiwan, is a proud foodie, music and art lover, and someone who is full of zest for life.
Dr. Chiang obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2021. During her time at Tufts, Dr. Chiang was honored as a Dean’s Research Honors Scholar for four consecutive years and received Graduation Awards in Periodontology, including the Quintessence Award for Research Achievement and the Northeastern Society of Periodontists Award.
Professional Affiliations
Driven by her passion for periodontics and implant dentistry, Dr. Chiang returned to her Alma Mater, the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, where she received a B.S. in neuroscience (where she learned how to dissect brains of fruit flies), to pursue a Master of Science (M.Sc.) and a Certificate in Periodontics and Implantology, which she completed in 2024. This rigorous training equipped her with a strong foundation in both the scientific and practical aspects of dental medicine. During her training in Periodontics, Dr. Chiang received the Graduate Student Clinical Case Competition Award for Outstanding Soft Tissue Grafting/Esthetic Case from the Michigan Periodontal Association in 2023 and her academic excellence has also been recognized through various scholarships and travel grants, including the Gloria Kerry Endowed Scholarship and the Gregory Zann Endowed Scholarship at the University of Michigan.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Chiang is dedicated to advancing dental research and has published several peer-reviewed journals. Her work focuses on peri-implantitis therapy, the use of ultrasonography in dental evaluations, and microsurgery. She remains actively involved in research at the Dental Ultrasound & Microsurgery Lab at The Ohio State University. Dr. Chiang is also an active member of several prestigious organizations, including the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Academy of Periodontology, and the American Dental Association.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Chiang is a true renaissance woman. She enjoys exploring new restaurants, expressing her creativity through music and art, and nurturing her love for nature through being a green thumb. She also cherishes time spent with family and friends, engaging in travel, swimming, and outdoor activities. Her zest for life is evident in all her endeavors, and she brings this enthusiasm and positivity to her work as a periodontist.
