Dr. Yi-Chen (Jo) Chiang

Dr. Chiang, originally from Taiwan, is a proud foodie, musician and art lover, and someone who is full of zest for life.

Dr. Yi-Chen (Jo) Chiang is a Diplomate of American Board of Periodontology, which is the highest honor in the field of periodontology and implantology. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston in 2021.

During her time at Tufts, Dr. Chiang was honored as a Dean’s Research Honors Scholar for 4 consecutive years and graduated with Quintessence Award for Research Achievement and the Northeastern Society of Periodontists Award.

Driven by her passion for periodontics and implant dentistry, Dr. Chiang returned to her Alma Mater, the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor (GO BLUE!), where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience (where she learned how to dissect brains of fruit flies). She pursued and completed a dual degree in Master of Science (M.Sc.) and a Certificate in Periodontics and Implantology in 2024. During her training in Periodontics, Dr. Chiang received the Graduate Student Clinical Case Competition Award for Outstanding Soft Tissue Grafting/Esthetic Case from the Michigan Periodontal Association in 2023.

Her academic achievements were further acknowledged through prestigious scholarships, including the Gloria Kerry Endowed Scholarship and the Gregory Zann Endowed Scholarship at the University of Michigan. She is also the recipient of the 2024 American Academy of Periodontology Straumann Award.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Chiang is dedicated to advancing dental research and has published several peer-reviewed journals on peri-implantitis therapy, the use of ultrasonography in dental evaluations, and periodontal surgeries under operating microscopes. Some of her journals were recognized as top cited articles in the field.

She stays actively involved in research at the Dental Ultrasound & Microsurgery Lab at The Ohio State University. Dr. Chiang serves as journal reviewers for several renowned research journals and has been invited to speak nationally and internationally about topics on periodontics and implants.

Dr. Chiang’s comprehensive training, numerous accolades, and dedication to research, education, and service make her an invaluable addition to MK Periodontics and Implants.

In Her Spare Time

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Chiang is a true renaissance woman. She enjoys exploring new restaurants, expressing her creativity through music and art, and nurturing her love for nature through being a green thumb. She also cherishes time spent with family and friends, engaging in traveling, swimming, doing Pilates, playing badminton, and outdoor activities. Her zest for life is evident in all her endeavors, and she brings this enthusiasm and positivity to her work as a periodontist.
